Dr. Judith L. “Judy” (Johnson) Biechler, age 70, of Dubuque, IA, passed away peacefully at 12:50 p.m. on Thursday, November 26, 2015, at Ennoble Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

To honor Dr. Judy’s life, funeral services were held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2015, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. 

To celebrate Dr. Judy’s life, family and friends visited from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2015, at Behr Funeral Home. 

Burial was to be in West Union, Iowa. 

Dr. Judy was born on October 7, 1945, in St. Louis, Missouri, daughter of Fred and Bertha (Stecker) Johnson.

Dr. Judy always dreamed of becoming a vet in her early years, and as she would reveal throughout her entire life, when she set a personal goal, it was sure to be achieved in time.  She devoted her time and talents without hesitation and eventually received her Doctorate in veterinary medicine from Iowa State University in 1969.  She would go on to work as a Supervisory Public Health Veterinarian for the USDA FSIS for over 40 years, primarily working at the Dubuque Packing Company until it’s closure. 

Dr. Judy’s commitment to her family and friends was never in question.  If you had the ability to touch her life in a positive manner, she would definitely reciprocate without hesitation. Her impact on the world around her was visible for all to see and her legacy will be dearly cherished and carried on in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her.    

Dr. Judy is survived by her son, Richard (Elaina Mertens) Biechler, Dubuque, IA; her sister, Joan (Dr. Ken) Miller, West Union, IA; and her nieces, Andrea (Andy) Burchett, Sioux Falls, SD, Erica (Jeff) Johnson, Austin, TX.

Dr. Judy was preceded in death by her parents.

A Dr. Judith L. “Judy” Biechler memorial fund has been established.
