Lady Blue Devils split two meets

West Central’s Kenadie Betz shot a 68 against Central Elkader on Monday, April 18, and a 69 against Clayton Ridge on April 21, for the Blue Devils fourth best score in each meet.

The West Central girls’ golf team split a pair of meets this week while the boys’ team tied and lost its two.

The boys’ team matched up with Central Elkader on Monday, April 18, at Big Rock Country Club in Fayette and tied the Warriors, 191-191. West Central senior Ethan Fink shot his team’s low score of 43 with birdies on holes one, six and nine. He also parred the fifth hole.

Warm, dry weather with low wind helped Brady Forsyth turn in a score of 47. Forsyth parred four holes (one, two, six and nine) en route to the team's second best score. Dustin Gordon shot a 50 and Jack McDonough, a 51, to round out the Blue Devils’ scoring.

It was the girls’ second victory of the season when they took down the Warriors, 239-289.

While the NFV boys’ track team ran extremely well Tuesday, April 19, at the Comet Relays in Charles City, the big news of the week was its win at the TigerHawk Invitational Thursday in West Union.

The North Fayette Valley girls won in a pair of track meets last week, winning the Crestwood Relays in Cresco and the TigerHawk Invitational Thursday in West Union.

The TigerHawk Invitational had some of the best weather in recent years. No wind, temperatures in the 60s, and while there was rain in the area, no drops fell on the Steve Story Athletic Complex.

The North Fayette Valley boys’ golf team split a pair of UIC games last week and finished fourth in Saturday’s tourney in New Hampton, with Noah Koch shooting a 78 to win the tournament.

Saturday’s tournament featured some very good teams and individuals.

NFV girls' golf moves to 5-0

The North Fayette Valley girls’ golf team moved to 6-0 in the UIC last week. In addition, the gals had some outstanding individual scores Saturday in a powerhouse tournament in New Hampton.

Saturday, the TigerHawks could not field a full team at the New Hampton tourney because of the band and chorus trip to St. Louis.

The South Winneshiek boys’ and girls’ golf teams continued their strong starts to the season with the boys decisively defeating North Fayette Valley and the girls’ squad losing to the TigerHawks by a single stroke.

The Warrior boys shot an impressive 159 to NFV’s 182 to claim the victory. Seniors Anthony Emanuel (35) and Logan Schweinefus (37) grabbed the top two spots, earning medalist and runner-up honors, respectively.

It was a busy week for the West Central boys’ and girls’ track teams as they hosted a meet and attended two others.

On Monday, April 11, West Central hosted the Blue Devils Relays at Oelwein with Clayton Ridge, Dunkerton, Edgewood-Colesburg, Kee High, Oelwein, Postville, Tripoli and Turkey Valley also competing.

On the girls’ side, the Blue Devils finished in eighth place with 28 team points while the boys finished seventh with 43 team points.

“We’re excited” is the way Racing Committee members Bill Suckow and Jon Francis about the upcoming season at the Fayette County Speedway in West Union.

The Fair Board created the Racing Committee last fall. Since then, the 10-member committee has been busy.
