John Helgerson (center) is the newest member of the North Fayette Valley Wrestling Hall of Fame. With the Iowa High School Wrestling Championship runner-up and DIII national champion are his two high school head coaches. Chris Moss (left) showed Helgerson what was to become his signature move that won him a national title in the final four seconds. Doug Engel first brought Helgerson into the sport when the future Hall of Famer was in seventh grade. In Thursday’s semifinal round of the 2017 Girls’ State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines, the Turkey Valley Trojans found a way to get it done and advance to the Class 1A State Championship game for the second consecutive season. While it took some additional playing time to do it, the No. 2-ranked squad from Jackson Junction used determination and resilience to take down No. 3-ranked Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton in overtime to get the win.

Facing a 24-17 deficit at the half, the Trojans knew the season was on the line, but facing a large deficit is not something that scares the gritty Lady Trojans squad.
