Warrior linksters pick up UIC wins

In a relatively slow week on the schedule for the South Winneshiek boys’ and girls’ golf teams, both squads earned an Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) win in their only meet of the week.

The Warriors traveled to Luana on Thursday to compete against MFL/MarMac at Tri-City Golf Course.

The South Winn girls earned a decisive 224-257 win over the Bulldogs. They were led by senior Allanda Kriener who earned medalist honors with a round of 52. South Winn’s Kaitlyn Theis earned runner-up honors for the meet as she carded a 54.

The South Winneshiek boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed at a combined three events last week, including two boys’ meets and one girls’ meet.

The Warrior boys traveled to Osage Tuesday, April 23, for its first action of the week.

Noah Tieskoetter took first in the long jump with a distance of 19’09.5”, while Paul Hageman was first across the finish line in the 1600-meter run (4:45.73).

The Warriors were sixth as a team with 49 points. Clear Lake took first overall with 164 points.

Thursday, the Warrior boys and girls traveled to Crestwood for a co-ed meet.

Boys' track ties Jesup

NFV boys' track only had one meet last week after the Warrior Invite hosted by Wapsie Valley on Monday, April 22, was cancelled due to the weather.

The TigerHawks did get Friday’s meet in Starmont in, finishing in a tie with Jesup for the top spot with 120 points apiece.

The weather wasn’t great with temps in the 50’s and a stiff wind; fortunately trees helped block the head wind, but did aid athletes running towards the finish line. 

The big news for NFV was the fact Zach Masasman was held out of the last two races because of a slight groin sprain. The senior should be fine, but will be held out of the race Monday, April 29 as a precaution.

While Massman did not run the final two relays, he did earn a pair of gold medals in the 200 and 400 dashes.

Girls' golf splits in rain

Rain was the word last week as the NFV girls' golf team split a pair of UIC matches in the rain at Pleasant Valley Sports Club in Clermont.

Despite the miserable conditions, the TigerHawks had their best round of the season in downing a tough Postville squad, 222-233.

Boys' golf keeps on winning

The NFV boy’s golf team continued to have a stellar season last week when it won two UIC contests and came out on top of the tournament in Guttenburg.

The week started in the rain as the TigerHawks hosted Postville in a downpour at Pleasant Valley Sports Club in Clermont.

The boys had a relatively easy time, winning, 177-220. Colin Gavin was medalist with a three-over par, 39.

NFV girls improving despite illnesses

The girls track team placed sixth on a cool, damp evening in Monona.

  “Once again illness cost us some points, but many events showed improvement,” explained head coach Mark Nuss.

 Three of the improved events were the 4x100, 4x400, and the sprint medley, all of which set season-best records.

The South Winneshiek girls’ golf team had a busy week last week, competing at three competitions.

Monday, April 15, the Warrior girls traveled to Tri-City Golf Club in Luana to take on the Postville Pirates.

As a team, the Warriors shot a 217 to beat their Upper Iowa Conference foes (232). Leading the way for South Winn was Allanda Kriener who shot a season-best 49 to earn medalist honors. Makayla Hageman also shot a season-best 50 to take home runner-up honors.

SW track/field competes at NFV

The South Winneshiek track and field teams competed at the NFV Coed Invite Thursday in West Union. The boys’ team placed third with 111 points, while the girls placed fifth with 76 points.

Leading the way for the Warrior boys was a trio of first-place finishers. Seth Greve cleared 128’07” in the discus, while Noah Tieskoetter cleared 20’09.75” in the long jump to each take first place in their respective events. Paul Hageman also earned gold in the 1600-meter run, finishing in a time of 5:55.08.

Boys' golf improves as season heats up

The South Winneshiek boys’ golf team competed at several meets last week, picking up a win over Postville on Monday, April 15, and finishing second in triangular action on Tuesday, April 16.

In their first meet of the week, the Warriors shot a 192 to defeat Postville (244) at Tri-City Golf Club in Luana.

Boys' golf has full week

With two tournaments and a pair of UIC outings, it was a busy week of golf for the NFV boys.

The full schedule began Monday, April 15, with the home opener at Pleasant Valley Sports Club in Clermont.

With West Central only having two golfers, the Blue Devils had no chance of winning. And, it would have taken a very good round to match the TigerHawks’ 182.
