TigerHawk wrestlers take on Jesup, Indee tourneys

North Fayette Valley got its wrestling season started with a pair of weekend tournaments, including the Jesup Tournament on Saturday and the Cliff Keen Independence Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Head coach Jacob Pedersen elected to send several wrestlers to Independence and several more experienced grapplers to the bigger tournament in Independence.
Jesup Tournament
At the Jesup Tournament, the TigerHawks were led by four runner-up finishers and a third-place finisher.
Nick Koch (106), Braeden Ellis (126), Derek Burger (145), and Alex Strief (152) each took second in their respective weight class, while Jesse Grimes (132) fought back to win his final match and take third place.
In the team standings, NFV was sixth with 161 points. Class 3A Waterloo West took first (283 points), followed by AGWSR (230) and North Tama (218).

Indee Tournament
The Cliff Keen Independence Invitational, which was held Friday and Saturday in nearby Independence, is one of the top wrestling tournaments in the Midwest. This year, teams from Iowa, Minnesota, Missoura, and Wisconsin were in attendance as some of the top athletes in the United States were in competition.
The TigerHawks sent four competitors to the tournament and were led by 11th-place finisher Kale Rodgers at 182 pounds and 12th-place finisher Levi Lauer at 132 pounds.
Joel Grimes (145 pounds) placed 17th, while Colton Schupbach (285 pounds) was 15th.
The team title went to Minnesota’s No. 1-ranked team in Class AA, Simley, as it scored 424 points. Class 1A No. 2-ranked Lisbon was second with 377 pounds, while Class 3A No. 3 Fort Dodge was third with 316.5 points.
