Paul Peter Johnson, age 83 of Brookings, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2020 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Visitation without the family present will be from 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Eidsness Funeral Home.  Masks are recommended. A private funeral for immediate family will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 1, 2020, at Eidsness Funeral Home with burial to follow at the East Hendricks Cemetery in Hendricks, MN.  The funeral will be live-streamed on www.eidsnessfuneralhome.com under Paul’s obituary.

William Cody

William Cody

 

William L. “Bill” Cody, 91, of West Union, Iowa formerly of Nevada, Iowa passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa.

Bill was born on January 15, 1929 to Tony and Elsie May (Osborne) Cody in Ames, Iowa. He grew up in Ames and graduated from Ames High School in 1947. After graduating, he served in the US Air Force for 5 years as a B29 mechanic. He married Martha Joan Sorensen in 1951, they returned to Nevada, Iowa where they lived in the house that he built himself, for 35 years until her death in 1986. He then took early retirement, moved to West Union and purchased a farm. He did extensive remodeling to the house and made it his home. In 1994 Bill married the second love of his life Jacqueline Joy Moon, enjoying retirement in their country home. In April 2019, they both moved to Good Samaritan Society due to health problems and Jackie passed away in November 2019.

Judith A. “Judy” Buckmaster, 80, of Oelwein, Iowa went to her heavenly home on Tuesday afternoon, December 15, 2020 at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian.

Public Graveside Service were held at  2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Lima Cemetery, rural Fayette, Iowa, with Rev. Josh Schunk officiating.

A Private Family Visitation and Funeral Service will be held.

Interment:  Lima Cemetery, rural Fayette, Iowa.

Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, is assisting the family.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the Ossian Senior Hospice, 114 Fisher Ave., Ossian, Iowa, 52161 and the Lima Cemetery Association, 16660 Heron Road   Fayette, Iowa 52142.

A Facebook livestreamed visitation was held for Franklin E. "Frank" Ostby, 78, of Winfield from 10:00 till 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22 from the Kimzey Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.  (https://www.facebook.com/KimzeyFuneralHome)  Due to COVID, a family only funeral service was also livestreamed on the Kimzey Funeral Facebook page at 11 a.m. Tuesday.  Pastor Jeff McPherson will officiate.  Burial will be at a later date.  Online condolences may be directed to the funeral home website, http://www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for charities to be determined later.

Lee “Tony” Schissel, age 88, of Guttenberg, IA, died Sunday, December 13, 2020, at home surrounded by his loved ones in Guttenberg, IA. 

Tony was born August 23, 1932 the son of Bertram and Henrietta (Riehle) Schissel in Fort Atkinson Iowa. Tony had met Lucy Bohr at a dance in Spillville IA in 1957.  He had married Lucy on June 18, 1959, which they had been married 61 years.

In 1952 Tony enlisted in the United States Army to Serve his country there he did so during the Korean War from 1952-1954 during this time he earned a Bronze Service Star. Upon his release from the Army he transferred to the Army Reserve to complete his 8 years under the Universal Military Training and Service Act.

Tony returned home to work at Rath Packing Plant in Waterloo, Iowa where he remained working for a total of 35 years until the company closed their doors.  He then farmed for several years until his retirement.

On Dec. 20, 2020, Joanne (Joannie) Clark was taken from us to receive her reward.

Joanne Marguerite (Spang) Clark, was born June 28, 1951 at Oelwein, Iowa to John and Marguerite Spang of Strawberry Point, Iowa. She attended Strawberry Point school system and graduated from Starmont High School in 1969 (“the fun class”.)

Following graduation Joannie moved to Cedar Rapids and enrolled in Fashion Merchandising at Kirkwood Community College. She later worked at Killlian’s Department Store and then for Square D Company.
