John Adams

 

 

John Adams age 93 of Waucoma, died Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

Funeral service was held 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waucoma with Rev. Nick March celebrating the Mass. The pall was placed by John's eleven children and his wife Norma. Lectors for the service were John Adams, Gerry Adams and Edna Stahley. Presenting the offertory gifts were Kole Adams, Vivian Searcy, Sara Adams, Mia Buckendahl and Annie Adams.

Interment was held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Waucoma Charlie Brannon, Eddie Brannon, Robert Adams, Paul Adams, Scott Searcy, Karl Curry, Sam Garles and Nathan Adams serving as pallbearers.

Military rights were conducted by the Waucoma American Legion Post #189 as well as members of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Marie Brincks, age 91, of Ossian, IA died Friday, October 2, 2015, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA.

  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Alan Dietzenbach at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian.

Interment will be in the church cemetery. Casket bearers will be Jeff Brincks, Lucas Brincks, Mary Jo Schmitt, Cindy Cunningham, Logan Brincks, Levi Franzen, Jackie Kies, and Dan Dietzenbach. Honorary casket bearers will be 10 of Marie’s grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Schluter-Balik Funeral Home in Decorah.  

Marie Anna (Hageman) Brincks was born on March 24, 1924, the daughter of August and Theresa (Schmitt) Hageman on the family farm near Calmar, IA.

Marie attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Festina.

Kathleen Arlene (Elsbernd) Schissel, 72, of Olathe, Kansas, died Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

 

She was born April 11, 1943 to Alois and Loretta (Kuennen) Elsbernd at Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah, IA.

She attended Our Lady of Seven Dolors School in Festina through tenth grade and graduated from DeSales Central High School in 1961. She then attended Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin for two years.

A memorial service for Robert D. “Bob” Slack II, formerly of West Union, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Lifehouse Community Church in Urbandale.

Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery, 4909 University Ave. in Des Moines.

Memorials can be directed to Lifehouse Community Church, 3201 99th St., Urbandale, IA 50322.

Bob died Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, in Des Moines.

Hilda Pleggenkuhle Oelrich, 99, of Hawkeye, died Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015, at St. Peter Lutheran Church-Richfield with Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. 

Interment followed at the Church Cemetery. 

Friends called from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 25 at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be given to Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, St. Croix Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Sharon Rae Lerch, 67, of Elgin, Iowa, died September 20, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center in West Union, Iowa after a brief illness.  She was born in Arlington, Iowa to her mother, Leola Hicks on September 6, 1948.  After William Lerch married Leola in 1951, he adopted Sharon.  Sharon graduated from Valley High School and resided most of her life in Clermont and Elgin. She enjoyed volunteering at the churches, libraries, and historical society.  She never met a cat she couldn’t love, and is survived by her favorite, Snowy.

  Sharon is also survived by a brother, Michael (Julie) Lerch, Elgin, Iowa; two sisters, Wendy (Peter) Wolf, Dubuque, Iowa and Julie (Marty Gibson) McCready, Gunder, Iowa; aunts and uncles, Arietta (Mick) Leonhart, Virginia Chapman Roete, Audrey Johnson, and Mervin Larson; two nieces; four nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews and many cousins.

Reuben "Lamar" Fox

 

 

Reuben "Lamar" Fox was born to Reuben M and Lucy Oberholtzer Fox on Feb. 20, 1995. Lamar passed away in an accident while hiking in the beautiful mountains of Northern India on September 9, 2015.

Lamar was born in Pennsylvania and moved to New Haven in 1997 with his family. He grew up on the farm near Randalia, Iowa. He was the oldest son in our family of seven children: four boys and three girls.

Shirley A. Becker, 71, of La Crescent, Minn., died on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.

She was born in West Union on April 3, 1944 in Iowa to Joseph and Evelyn (Twite) Becking.

Shirley married Joseph F. Becker on August 12, 1967 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Hokah, MN.

Shirley enjoyed crocheting, crafts, flea markets, antiquing, refinishing woodwork, cooking, canning, reading and traveling. She was a good listener who gave great common sense advice. She was happiest when she was riding along in the semi with her husband Joe, and being a farm wife. She also loved being with her grandkids.

Shirley is survived by a daughter Tracy (Dirk) Mulder of Holmen, a son Tony (Heidi) Becker of Whitehall, WI, two grandchildren, Seth and Hannah Mulder, a special friend and cousin, Sylvia Skifton, and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mark Mihm, age 94, of St. Lucas, IA, died on Thursday, September 17, 2015, at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, IA.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, Sept. 21, at St. Luke Catholic Church in St. Lucas. Celebrating the Mass were the Rev. Nick March and the Rev. Joseph Hauer with Deacon Jim Zajicek.

Interment was in the church cemetery. Military rites were conducted by Aloysius Schmitt American Legion Post 691 of St. Lucas.

Casket bearers were Brian Mihm, Brandon Daniels, Brad Ridout, Craig Kuehner, Marcus Daniels, Austin Mihm, and Colin Mihm.

Honorary casket bearers were John Wiest, Terry Costigan, Dave Goerend, Billy Mihm, and Dick Nienhaus.

Arrangements were handled Schluter-Balik Funeral Home in Decorah.

Mark Louis Mihm was born on February 2, 1921, the son of John and Clara (Perry) Mihm in St. Lucas, Iowa.
