Edna Belle Lindsey, 91, of Decorah, Iowa passed away Friday, January 12, 2018 at Wellington Place Nursing Home in Decorah.  Edna Belle, the daughter of Emory and Cleo (White) Hubbartt, was born August 12, 1926 at the family’s rural home in Skylar County, Missouri.  At the age of sixteen, Edna Belle graduated from high school in Lancaster, Missouri.

She was a member of the North High Class of 1962 but moved before she graduated.

Louis 'Stub' Becker

 

 

Louis “Stub” Becker Jr., 77, of Elgin, Iowa died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital, West Union, Iowa. 

Louis Jr. was born on May 17, 1940 to Louis F. and Estella (Peters) Becker in Elgin, Iowa. 

He graduated from Valley High in 1958.

Stub was united in marriage with Sharon Kay Schultz on Nov. 5, 1961 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa and they were lifelong members of United Methodist Church in Elgin, Iowa. The couple had three sons, David, Gary and Dan.

Stub’s first job was at Bob Falb Implement in Elgin, Iowa and took over the family farm in 1961, which he farmed the rest of his life.  He hauled corn for the Elgin Canning Factory for several years and also drove school bus for Valley for a few years.

Donna Marie Seitz, 79, of West Union, Iowa formerly of Clermont, Iowa died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society, Postville, Iowa. 

Donna Marie was born to Andrew and Julia (Kleppe) Molokken on the family farm in Dover Township, Clermont, Iowa on Sept. 21, 1938. 

She was baptized on Oct. 30, 1938 by Rev. Mona and confirmed on June 29, 1952 by Rev. E.O. Ulring, both at the First Lutheran Church, rural Ossian, Iowa. 

Donna spent many years teaching Vacation Bible School and was also Sunday School Superintendent and led Luther League throughout her younger years. Her Church and ancestors of Norwegian heritage meant a lot to Donna, with her children making it five generations attending First Lutheran Church. 

Donna attended Dover #6 country school, which her family still maintains as a historical school and graduated from West Union High School in 1956.

Arlene Mary McCauley, 86, of Alabama passed away in the evening of Monday, Jan. 15, 2018 in Huntsville, Ala., where she resided in a nursing home. 

She was born near Elma, Iowa on Sept. 6, 1931, the first child of Arthur Fountain and Irene Burri Fountain. 

Arlene grew up around Cresco and West Union. 

She graduated from Cresco High School. 

Arlene married Norman McCauley on May 29, 1957 at Wartburg Chapel in Waverly. 

Arlene then lived in West Union, and when Norman became Fayette County Sheriff, she took on the duties of managing many chores at the Fayette County Jail. 

She led an active life in Northeast Iowa, participating in church activities, and enjoying Bridge Club. She enjoyed traveling during retirement. 

Arlene moved to Huntsville, Ala., in 1998.

Robert “Bob” Friederich, 82, of Postville, Iowa died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, Wisconsin. Robert Leo was born on January 13, 1935 to Jacob and Ida (Schneider) Friederich in Elgin, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed on March 22, 1953 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. Bob graduated from Postville High School in 1953 and proudly joined the United States Air Force.

Donna Baldwin Davenport, longtime resident of Iowa City went to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018.  She was 84.  

She was born Dec. 5, 1933 in Strawberry Point Iowa to parents Harry and Lillie (Gruver) Baldwin.

Her father was a bakery owner, well known for his beautiful cakes and special baked goods. Her mother Lillie worked alongside Harry and after his passing went into nursing. 

Donna worked as a crossing guard where her children went to school and was a sweet addition to all the children she helped get safely to school. 

She went on to work at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for well over 40 years until retiring as a Tech II in the operating room.

Peter J. Greco, 90, of rural Maynard, Iowa died on Tuesday evening, January 9, 2018 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

 

Mass of Christian Burial:  10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with Rev. Jerry F. Kopacek officiating.

Visitation:  3:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. on Saturday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein.

Military Service:  6:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.

Scripture Service:  6:30 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Interment:  Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa.

A Memorial Fund has been established for Sacred Heart Catholic Church Choir.

Edwin C. “Ed” Erickson, Jr., 64, of Maynard, Iowa passed away on Saturday morning, January 13, 2018 with his family at his side at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

 

Funeral Service:  10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Westgate, Iowa with Rev. Herbert C. Mueller, III., officiating.

Visitation: 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Maynard and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Interment: St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Westgate, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the Maynard Fire Department, St. Peter Lutheran Church or the Hillcrest Home.

June C. Flaskerud, 82, of Sumner and formerly of West Union, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Chapel in Hawkeye with Lay Servant Mona Christie officiating. 

A Visitation will precede the memorial service on Wednesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. 

Memorials may be made in June’s name to West Union Community Library.

June Corrinea, daughter of Everett and Edith (Simon) Stone, was born July 2, 1935 in Clinton, Iowa.
