Ellen Halverson

   Ellen Halverson, age 77, of West Union, IA, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at her home in West Union, IA.  

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Madison Lutheran Church, 2658 Madison Road, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Jeff Hansen presiding.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave in Decorah and also after 10:00 a.m. at the Church on Saturday morning.  The Schluter-Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Elizabeth Covington

Elizabeth “Liz” Covington, 72, of Long Prairie, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 27, 2019.  Funeral services for Liz were held on Thursday, May 2, 2019, 5:00 p.m., at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie with Fr. Omar Guanchez and Deacon Jim Schulzetenberg officiating.  Interment was held at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Long Prairie.

Julia "Judy" Martin

Julia A. “Judy” Martin, 92, of Elgin, Iowa died Saturday, April 27, 2019.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Clermont, Iowa with a one-hour visitation before services at the church.

William Konichek

William Gene Konichek (AKA Moose) died April 23, 2019 at the VA Hospital surrounded by family, following a long battle with MS.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. April 29, 2019, at Miller Funeral Home Southside Chapel, Sioux Falls, SD. His cremated remains will be spread on Mt Deborah in Alaska where his heart was.

William Philips

William “Bill” Lawrence Philips passed away peacefully on April 16^th, 2019 in Spring Hill, Florida with his family by his side.   Bill was born on October 6^th, 1937 in Decorah, IA to Lawrence “Speed” and Norma Fritz Philips.

Bill attended school in West Union, IA graduating in 1955.   He attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA.  While in the area he was a volunteer in the West Union Fire Department.   During this time, he served with his father and grandfather making three generations of Philips ‘serving together in West Union.

Arlene Bodensteiner

Arlene Margaret Bodensteiner, 89, of West Union, Iowa died on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa. Arlene Margaret Reicks was born March 3, 1930 in St. Lucas to James Reicks and Eleanor (Busche) Reicks. She attended St. Luke’s Catholic School and graduated high school in 1948.  

Susan (Loterbour) Paige

Susan Marie (Loterbour) Paige, age 68, of Ely, passed away at her home in Ely on April 23, 2019.  Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Saturday April 27, 2019, at St. John Lutheran Church in Ely. Visitation was one hour prior to the services Saturday at the Church.   

Susan Marie Loterbour was born on October 25, 1950 in Mason City, Iowa to Alan and Dorothy (Arnold) Loterbour.  She graduated from North High School in West Union, Iowa in 1968 and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa.

On September 5, 1970 she was united in marriage to Brent Paige in West Union.  The couple made their home in the Cedar Rapids area until they moved to Ely in the 1970s.  To this union two sons were born, Matthew Michael Paige and Edward (Ted) Alan Paige.

Susan was an avid horseperson for many years, enjoying her horses Blaze and Blaze II.

Sharil Ogle

Sharil Mae Ogle, 83, of Wadena, Iowa died Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa.  She was born June 25, 1935 to Clyde and Beulah (Ferguson) Ramsey in Marshalltown, Iowa. Sharil was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington, Iowa. After graduating high school, she attended Upper Iowa and earned her Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education and History.
