Clermont man turns self in, charged with sexually abusing a child

After a nation-wide search was launched for his arrest, a Clermont man turned himself in to authorities on a charge of sexually abusing one child and could possibly be charged for abusing several others.

Matthew Eric Nordrum, 45, turned himself in to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in West Union, about 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, the day after a notice was posted that he was being sought in the case.  He has been charged with sex abuse in the second degree, a class “B” felony, and was held on a $25,000 bond.

Following a two-week investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, it was alleged that he sexually assaulted a child under the age of 5, while the child was at his home in Clermont, as well as several other victims. A child day-care service was located in the home. Authorities said they have no record of the day care being licensed.

The investigation also led to three other allegations that are currently under investigation for sexual assault and further charges are pending in this case.

Fayette County Sheriff Marty Fisher thanked the public for their assistance.
