Lee E. Priebe, 84, of Hawkeye, died Sunday, May 1, 2022, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at the Alpha United Methodist Church with Mona Christie, Lay Speaker officiating. Burial followed at the Alpha Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 9, at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the Church on Tuesday. Memorials may be made in Lee’s name to the Alpha Cemetery. Becker & Son Funeral Home in Hawkeye is assisting Lee’s family. Online condolences may be left at www.beckermilnesrettig.com.

Lee Ervin, son of Ervin and Ruth (Niles) Priebe was born May 31, 1937, in Alpha. He was baptized and confirmed at the Alpha United Methodist Church. Lee received his education in the Alpha Schools, graduating from Alpha High School in 1956. On May 31, 1957, he was united in marriage with Sherry Pierce at the Alpha United Methodist Church.

Lee was a lifelong farmer in the Hawkeye area. In addition to grain farming, he milked cows, and raised hogs and chickens. Lee also worked at John Deere & Co. in Waterloo, Oliver in Charles City, the Alpha Mill, drove a milk truck, and drove School Bus for North Fayette School for thirty-six years. He was a lifelong member of the Alpha United Methodist Church, and would take care of anything needed at the Church, whether it be mowing the lawn, snow removal, or many of the other various tasks necessary. Lee was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing slow pitch or fast pitch softball, and loved attending all of his grandkids and great-grandkids sporting events.

Lee is survived by his wife, Sherry of Hawkeye; two children, Ransom Priebe of Waucoma and Gail (Alan) Hackman of West Union; six grandchildren, Amber Priebe of Allison, Ethan (Satasha) Priebe of Sumner, Cameron Priebe of Des Moines, Lee (Katie) Hackman of Cedar Falls, Tyler (Kayla) Hackman of West Union, and Evan Hackman of West Union; ten great-grandchildren, Mia Priebe, Grayson and Ava Hackman, Easton, Landon, Canton, Breckon, and Evelyn Hackman and Liam and Sawyer Hackman; sister, Betty (Jerry) Wilbur of Alpha; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela, in infancy and several brothers-in-law and sister-in-law.
