 ljoe Roger Kapell, 67 of Blue Grass, IA died in the loving arms of his wife on Friday, April 22, 2022, at Genesis Medical Center East, in Davenport, IA after an extended illness.

 elebration of Life Services will be held from 11:00 - 1:00 p.m. on June 11, 2022 at the Blue Grass Community Club followed by a 50’s / 60’s band in the Blue Grass City Park. Online condolences may be shared at www.rungemortuary.com. 

 ljoe, “AJ” Roger Kapell was born September 28, 1954 in Decorah, IA to Albert and Marjorie (Spilde) Kapell. He attended South Winneshiek High School followed by a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology at Hamilton Technical College in Davenport, IA.

 fter high school, AJ owned a corn shelling business in Castalia, IA. Later, he moved to Blue Grass and worked at the Heinz Corporation in Muscatine, IA for the agricultural department. In 1994, he began work in the underground cable industry, becoming owner operator of Molly Cable in 2006 until his retirement in 2017. 

 J was a goodhearted, unassuming soul. A “jack of all trades”, he was mechanically- and electronically-inclined, spending his free time tinkering on many projects in his happy place, the garage. His door was always open for anybody who needed help or to share a cold Old Milwaukee while listening to 50’s and 60’s music. AJ had a love for family, especially his mother, and had a very special bond with his surviving triplet brother, Bobby. He adored his wife of 21 years, Debbie, creating many special memories at their home on Niesse Street. Together, they enjoyed hosting family gatherings and taking their nightly ride on the golf cart that they enjoyed decorating for holidays and handing candy out to kids. An endeared father, grandfather, and uncle, AJ thought the world of all his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A second father to Bobby’s twins, Aaron and Andrew Kapell, he enjoyed teaching them all he knew about mechanics and the cable industry, helping to carry on his legacy.

 e was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Majorie Kapell, his triplet brother John Edward, his three half sisters and their husbands, Barbara and Clem Wurzer; Arlene and Roger Vick; and Celine and Russell Schumann; his brother-in-law Gerald Schneider; and his stepson Jon Wiley.

 Aljoe is survived by his wife, Debbie Wiley; his children, Laurie Abbe, Bobbie Jo Moritz, and Benjamin Richards; his step children Joshua Wiley and Shawn Pecoraro; his 16 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his sister Arlette Schneider of Clermont, IA; brother Theodore Kapell of Blue Grass, IA; sister MaryJane (Richard) Callas of Hiawatha, IA; triplet brother Robert (Rochelle) Kapell of Blue Grass, IA and many nieces and nephews.
