Ellen Halverson

 

Ellen Irene Halverson, 86, of Elgin, formerly of West Union passed away, Wednesday, November 24, 2021at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital surrounded by loving family.

She was born March 24, 1935, to Eugene Ruben Nutting and Gladys Wilma Baldwin Nutting at their home rural route Wadena. Sometime later they moved to a farm near Brainard where Ellen attended school until the eighth grade. At an early age she began helping her father on the farm, babysitting, and cleaning homes.

On August 28, 1953 at the age of eighteen, Ellen accepted Christ as her personal savior while attending Gospel meetings held by Henry Wah ls and William Warke.  Ellen married Kenneth Halverson on Dec. 3, 1955. To this union one daughter, Deborah Jean was born. Her first job in 1956 was at Elscheimers, then Tony's sandwich division of Schwans, Atwood and she retired from H & H Food Service. 

"Gi Gi" as she was called by her grandchildren, loved spending time with them. She was an outdoor person and enjoyed her horses, cattle, and chickens. She also loved baking and sharing it with others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Halverson; parents, Gene and Gladys; a sister, Ruthie Jane Van Brocklin (husband Stanley) and a stillborn brother. Father and mother-in-law, Martin and Ida Halverson; sisters-in-law, Lillian (Edwin) Loftsgard, Mildred (Ed) Christensen and Irene (Clarence) Ruroden. Also many aunts, uncles, and nephews.

Survivors include her daughter Deborah Jean (Randy) Miller, grandson Derek (Jillian) Miller, three great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Per Ellen's wishes, there will be no services and a private family burial at a later date.

The family would like to thank Home Care, Physical therapy, Tri- State Gundersen Ambulance, Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital, and Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospice for their wonderful care.

There are no services planned.

Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
