Marilyn Janis Larson was born in Dr. Jerdee’s office in Clermont, Iowa on August 26, 1933 to Aines and Harriet (Amundson) Olson.  She was the 2ndof five sisters.  Marilyn grew up on the Olson family farm 3 miles east of Clermont. Marilyn was baptized and confirmed at the East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont.  She attended country school at the Grand Meadow Township #8 “Olson” School, 7th- 8thgrades at the Larrabee School in Clermont and was a 1950 graduate of Clermont High School.  Following graduation, she worked in Dr. Jerdee’s office in Clermont.

On October 13, 1951 Marilyn married LaVerne R. Larson at the East Clermont Lutheran Church.  They became the parents of 3 girls and 3 boys; Ann, Lois, Gary, James, Barbara, and David.

LaVerne and Marilyn farmed east of Clermont for 5 Years.  In 1956 they purchased the “Bauder” farm 1.5 miles NE of Elgin.  This is where they started their dairy herd.  LaVerne and Marilyn farmed this farm together along with their 6 children for 37 years.  In 1993 they built their home at 400 Shin Bone Dr. in Elgin. They lived here for 14 years before LaVerne died Oct 9, 2007.  They were married 4 days short of 56 years.

Marilyn was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 42 years, the neighborhood Sunnydale Club, and was a faithful member of her church-teaching Sunday School, Bible School, active in the Women’s organization and served on the church council.

Marilyn liked to read, write letters, poems and short stories, embroider, go on Sunday afternoon rides, attend her children’s school activities, mow lawn, blow snow and take lunches to the fields during planting and harvesting.

In later years she enjoyed visits from her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren and driving her pick-up truck to see what was going on at the farms in the country.

After LaVerne’s death, Marilyn continued living in her home for another 14 years.  She celebrated her 88thbirthday August 26, 2021.  On September 15 she moved to Stoney Brook Assisted Living in West Union.  Her death occurred there on November 17, 2021.

Marilyn is survived by 5 of her 6 children, Lois (Kim) Dummermuth, Elgin; Gary (LeAnn) Larson, Clermont; James Larson, Postville; Barbara (Brian) Wenger, Elgin; David (Janelle) Larson, Elgin.

15 of her 16 grandchildren; Amy Decker, Sara Pankonen, Joel Bartz, Matt Dummermuth, Chad Dummermuth, Drew Dummermuth, Kari Putney, Brooke Schneider, Nick Larson, Abbie Huinker, Joshua Larson, Jacob Larson, Aaron Wenger, Landon Wenger, Logan Wenger and 50 great grandchildren; Bryce, Peyton, Micah, Karter, Kashton, Maddison, Karsyn, Dalton, Kara, Danica, Kamryn, Caleb, Lydia, Micah, Naomi, Abigail, Emma, Audrey, Conner, Laurel, Alaine, Clare, Erica, Hallie, Jana, Nora, Ahnalee, Kate, Rhett, Ryan, Tyler, Nathan, Adalyn, Coraline, Nolan, Ellary, Henrik, Alma, Finn, Brynnley, Blaire, Blaine, Alexis, Broc, Aksel, Niko, Kane, Elise, Luca, and Boone.  Her sisters, Darlene (Oliver) Larson, Elgin, IA., Anita (Don) Hoth, Lake Zurich, IL., Karen Frieden, Swisher, IA.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband LaVerne (2007), daughter Ann Bartz (Oct 26, 2021), granddaughter Jenny Larson (2014), son-in-law David Bartz (2009), and sister Sandra Penz (2005).

Visitation will be held Friday, November 26, 2-5 p.m. at   East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, November 27, 1 p.m.  a East Clermont Lutheran Church.
