Ossian will hold a Memorial Day program at 11 a.m. on Monday to celebrate Memorial Day. The event will take place at Wild Woods Event Center on Main Street and also include a cemetery tour throughout the area.

All area veterans are invited to meet at the Ossian Community Center at 6:30 a.m. for breakfast served by the Ossian Boy Scouts. All veterans and community members are welcome to join the Legion as they hold honors at the ceremony.

Veterans will then embark on a cemetery tour, which is as follows:

  •  7:45 a.m. – Bethany Lutheran;
  •  8 a.m. First Lutheran;
  •  8:30 a.m. Silver Springs (honoring those lost at sea);
  •  8:45 a.m. Hillside Cemetery;
  •  9 a.m. Bloomfield;
  •  9:15 a.m. Castalia Veterans Memorial;
  •  9:30 a.m. Pleasant View;
  •  9:45 a.m. – Centennial;
  •  10 a.m. St. Francis DeSales Cemetery
  •  A memorial salute will be held at the Veterans Memorial at Carey’s Park prior to the start of the parade.

The Memorial Day parade (weather permitting) will start at 10:30 a.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial at Carey’s Park. The route will go down Main Street to the Ossian Post Office, then back to Wild Woods Event Center.

At 11 a.m., the Memorial Day program will begin.

Any veteran wishing to march in or ride in the parade should meet at Cary’s Park at approximately 10:15 a.m. Cars, bikes, motorcycles, horses, and walkers are all welcome to join in the parade. Please remember to remove your hats and stand proud as the veterans and our country’s colors pass.

Please give your veterans a hand and join them at the DeSales cemetery at 4 p.m. on Memorial Day to help take down the flags and poles.
