Stanley Cowles

Stanley Park Cowles passed away on February 21, 2021 at the age of 87 at his home in Chandler, AZ. Stanley was an Arizona resident for 48 years and had lived in Chandler since 2004.

Stanley was born in 1933 and grew up on a farm in Ossian, IA. He continued farming in rural West Union, IA where he married Donna Demory on Easter Sunday, April 10, 1955 at Bethany Lutheran Church.

In 1966, he moved his family to Bowman Woods in Northeast Cedar Rapids, IA where he worked at Collins Radio and Nash Finch Company.

In 1973, the family moved to Tempe, AZ where he was employed by Smitty’s Marketplace as the Transportation Supervisor, keeping 22 stores stocked with groceries and general merchandise.

Stanley was best known for his handyman abilities. His favorite tool was a bottle of Elmer’s Glue, which he could use to fix just about anything. One of his greatest joys was when he retired and became a full-time Grandpa, which required him to fix many, many things! He was also an inventor, holding a patent for an adjustable disposable funnel, and could solve any problem, even making custom sun visor extenders for his car.

Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; two sons, Kenis and Mark; parents, Park and Lulu Cowles; sister, Delores Chensvold; and brother, Kenneth Cowles.

He is survived by daughters Kandis Barnum (Mark) of Waxhaw, NC; Marla Hostetler (Patrick) of Chandler, AZ; and Jodi Nunn (Simon) of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Lee Cowles (Catherine) of Gilbert, AZ; brothers Bob Cowles (Beverly) of Ossian, IA and George Cowles (Darlene) of Mission, TX; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Stanley and his wife Donna were very involved with their church community. The family would like to thank Sun Valley Community Church, as well as the staff at Copper Creek Inn Assisted Living and Americare Hospice. Memorials in Stanley’s honor may be made to his church (check payable to ‘Sun Valley Community Church’ with ‘Care Fund’ on memo line, sent to 6101 S. River Dr., Tempe, AZ 85283), or to the Americare Hospice Foundation (check payable to ‘Americare Hospice Foundation, sent to Americare Hospice & Palliative Care at 1212 N. Spencer, Mesa, AZ 85203).

A private graveside service will be held for the family on a future date. Condolences can be left for the family on the dignitymemorial.com website.
