Wally McIntyre

Wally McIntyre, 84, of Hawkeye, passed away, Friday, February 19, 2021, at Unity Point/Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 27, 2021, at the United Methodist Church in Hawkeye with Mona Christie, Lay Servant officiating. The service will be livestreamed on Becker-Milnes & Rettig Facebook Page. Burial will be at Hawkeye Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 26th at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the Church on Saturday.

Wallace Christopher was born on a farm in rural Hawkeye, on June 3, 1936, to Wallace William and Phyllis Ella (Morf) McIntyre. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Faith.  Wally graduated from Hawkeye High School in 1953, maybe without honors, but with many life long friends. On August 6, 1955, he was united in marriage with LaFonda Miller at the First Baptist Church in Elgin. Wally began his working career at Epperson Construction in Sumner, then Titus Manufacturing in Waterloo, before farming in the Hawkeye area until 1982. After farming, he began driving semi truck for Jensen Trucking in Independence for several years, prior to owning and operating McIntyre Trucking for the last few years. Wally was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Hawkeye. He enjoyed riding horses, traveling, antiques and collecting old signs, Model T and Model A Fords (and belonged to car clubs for both). Wally was someone who always wanted to stay busy, whether it was tinkering on an old Model T or a birdhouse.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty five years, LaFonda of Hawkeye; two daughters, Lynn Lee and Lori (Bradley) Halverson, both of Hawkeye; four grandchildren, Tara (Chad) Thompson, Annie (Travis) Lamphier,  Kensey Lee, and Ty (Sierra) Halverson; four great-grandchildren, Paige Ella and Owen Wallace Thompson, Kora Lamphier, and Keira Lee; and many other family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Kenn; son-in-law, Donald Lee; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois (Leon) Schutte and Marilyn (Jerry) Gehling.
