Alice Katherine Kauten, 73 years old, of Jesup, IA, died Monday, December 28, 2020, at MercyOne – Waterloo Medical Center, in Waterloo, IA, due to complications from Covid-19.

  Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2021, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, IA. The service were live streamed, with access from the church website. Visitation was 9 – 11 a.m., Saturday, at the church.

  Memorials may be directed to the church as well as to the family to be given to multiple organizations.

  Alice was born March 24, 1947, at Stanley, IA, the daughter of Lawrence William Kauten and Barbra Mathilda (Mihm) Kauten. She graduated from West Central High School in Maynard, IA, with the class of 1965. She continued her education in Dubuque, IA, and became a teacher and counselor. She taught school in a number of places, including Granville, IL, and New Hampton, IA, before she finished her career in Jesup, IA, where she made her home for 30 years. Alice was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, where she was an active volunteer. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas – St. Rita Crt. #321, of Oelwein.

  Alice is survived by three brothers, William (Joann) Kauten of Fayette, IA, Francis (Mary) Kauten of Fayette, IA, Ralph Richard (Erica) Kauten of Madison, WI; five sisters, Margaret ( Robert) Rosenbaum of Thorton, AR, Teresa (Boyce) Harker of Palm Desert, CA, Mary (Jim) Lincoln, Oelwein, IA, Barbara Gehrke of Oelwein, IA, Helen Girard of Cedar Rapids, IA; one brother-in-law, Johnnie Johnson of Viroqua, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

  She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Rosemary Johnson; one brother, Jimmy Kauten; one brother-in-law, Deacon Richard Gehrke; one nephew, Bobby Rosenbaum; and one niece, Sheri (Rosenbaum) Henning.
