Mary Ann Schaer, 82, of Elgin, Iowa died Monday, July 6, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa.  Mary Ann was born October 5, 1937 to Fred and Maude (Montgomery) Schaer in Elgin, Iowa. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1955, where she played bass drum in the high school band.

For fifty years, Mary Ann worked as a Bank Teller at Elgin State Bank, retiring in 2005. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she played church organ, was financial secretary, taught Sunday School, and belonged to Tabitha Circle for many years. Mary Ann was active in the Elgin Betterment Club. She enjoyed traveling with her sister, Martha. Music was a big part of her life; she played piano and organ.

Surviving Mary Ann are her brother, James F. (Martha) Schaer of Johnston, Iowa; sister-in-law, Alice Schaer of Elgin, Iowa; her nieces and nephews, Louise (Rob) Harrington of Orting, Washington, E. J. (Bill) Glick of Champaign, Illinois, Tom (Nicole) Schaer of Duluth, Minnesota, Eric Schaer of West Union, Iowa, Mindy (Jim) Sawtelle of Superior, Colorado, David (Vicki) Schaer of Urbandale, Iowa and Steven Schaer of Johnston, Iowa; and sixteen great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Maude Schaer; sister, Martha Louise Schaer; brother, John Jacob Schaer; and a great nephew, Tristan Sawtelle.

Memorials may be made in Mary Ann’s honor to First Baptist Church of Elgin, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Elgin, Iowa with Rev. J. T. Young as the officiant. There will be a one hour visitation from 10 - 11 am before services at the church on Saturday

Luncheon will follow Services.

Burial will follow at Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, Iowa.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin, Iowa is helping the family with arrangements.
