Lucille B. Block, 91, of Maynard, Iowa died Sunday, July 5, 2020 at her home.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 9, 2020 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate, Iowa with Rev. Herbert C. Mueller, III officiating.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Interment: St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Westgate.

Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing will be required.  Those in attendance are encouraged to wear a mask at the services.  We encourage relatives and friends not able to attend the service to reach out to the family by leaving a message on the funeral home web site, by mail, text or phone.

Lucille Bertha Steinbronn was born June 19, 1929 in rural Readlyn, Iowa the daughter of Carl William and Erna Emily (Sass) Steinbronn.  Pastor C. Meyer baptized her July 21, 1929.  On August 29, 1943, Pastor K. Richard Schliepsiek at Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette, Iowa confirmed her.  She received her education at country schools and later Fayette and Maynard High Schools.  Following graduation, she worked at Allen Hospital as a nurse’s aid and also worked at Rath’s in Waterloo as an office mail carrier; then promoted to switch board operator.  On January 23, 1949, she was united in marriage to William Neal “Billy” Block at Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette, Iowa.  She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate.  Lucille enjoyed being a farmer’s wife - - which included raising chickens, milking cows and cleaning several cases of eggs each week.  She also enjoyed working in the fields, raising sheep, stock cattle and calves.  She attended many auctions looking for antique glass.  Lucille especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Lucille is survived by her 2 sons: Richard Block of St. Cloud, Florida and Roger (Vicki) Block of North Liberty; daughter: Nina (Red) Brickman of Westgate; 8 grandchildren: Leah (Phil) Harte of Ireland, Eliza (Jack) Corrigan of Ireland, Olivia Spicer of Albertville, Minnesota, Kearston Block of Houston, Texas, Kyle Block of West Des Moines, Cody Brickman, Cheyanne Brickman and Cheridan Brickman all of Westgate; 2 great grandchildren: Bexley Spicer and Rua Harte; 3 brothers: Wilbert (Marjorie) Steinbronn of Fairbank, George (Janice) Steinbronn of Maynard and  John (Cisco) Steinbronn of Oelwein; 2 sisters: Pauline Snodgrass of Scottsdale, Arizona and Irene Reinking of Nora Springs; sister-in-law: Carole Steinbronn of Westgate; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on March 25, 2008; great granddaughter: Avery Spicer; 2 brothers: Raymond Steinbronn and Robert Steinbronn; sister: Esther Canfield; brothers-in-law: Melvin Canfield and Keith Snodgrass; and sister-in-law: Mildred Steinbronn.
