Robert George Wilhelm, son of Carl William and Erna Emily (Sass) Steinbronn was born June 25, 1926, in Dunkerton. Robert was baptized as an infant in the Lutheran faith, and was confirmed at the age of 13 in Klinger, Iowa (June 1940). On July 29, 1951, he was united in marriage with Mildred Downing at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. Robert served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from December 5, 1952, and was honorably discharged on December 4, 1954. Upon his return home, Robert and Mildred purchased the Graff farm near Lima in 1955. He would continue to farm in the rural Fayette area, until retiring in 1995. After retirement, he continued to assist area farmers. In addition to farming, Robert owned and operated a gas station in Maynard, had a portable grain mill, and did custom bailing. Robert was a long time faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette, where he was instrumental in the building of the Church, served as Superintendent of Sunday School, was an Elder, and served on the Church Council. He was also a member of American Legion Post #339 of Fayette. He enjoyed walking his dog and was an avid car collector, but his faith, family, and farming were his true passions.

Robert is survived by his five children, Michael Steinbronn, Carolyn (Scott) Luchsinger, Sherryl (Rob) Pennebaker all of Fayette, Robert Steinbronn, Jr. of Mount Vernon, and Douglas (Michelle Perry) Steinbronn of River Falls, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Jonathan (Danielle) Luchsinger of West Union, Ryan (Kelsey) Pennebaker of Raymond, David (Danielle) Luchsinger of Waverly, Kristen (Tony) Reinking of Oelwein, and Hannah Atkins of Waterloo; nine great-grandchildren, Danica and Dalaney Luchsinger, Emily and Ethan Luchsinger, Kellen and Eden Pennebaker, Westin and Oaklynn Reinking, and Hayden Atkins; three brothers, Wilbert (Marge) Steinbronn of Fairbank, George (Janice) Steinbronn of Maynard, and John (Cisco) Steinbronn of Oelwein; three sisters, Pauline Snodgrass of Scottsdale, Arizona, Irene Reinking of Nora Springs, and Lucille Block of Westgate; sister-in-law, Carole Steinbronn of Westgate; and many nieces and nephews.
