Mayor Beckman addresses pandemic on local level

On Sunday evening, Mayor Bryan Beckman released the following statement in regard to the COVID-19 outbreak:

I wanted to give everyone an update on what is going on in Ossian in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City Clerk’s office will remain open for business behind a locked door. Utility bill payments and other paperwork can be placed in the mail slot located on the City Clerk’s office door. If you need to contact the City Clerk, you can do so by calling (563) 532-8939 or by emailing ossianclerk@acegroup.cc.

The Community Center meeting room will not be available to use for meetings or events until further notice.

The Ossian Public Library is also closed until further notice. You can contact them during normal business hours at (563) 532-9461.

I have been in contact with Emergency Management and have been attending emergency management commission meetings.

I have briefed all city council members in regard to the situation and will continue to provide updates.

I have also talked to Eileen Courtney at Ossian Senior Hospice and went over its mitigation plan.

I encourage everyone to stay up-to-date with current guidelines at the CDC and Iowa Department of Public Health websites.

I commend those who are checking on and helping the elderly and those shut-in in our community. I especially thank Dr. Patrick Henry for donating 500 surgical masks to Winneshiek Medical Center. It is people helping people that will get us through this difficult time.

I would also like to send a message to all local businesses and urge them to hang in there. I also want to thank them for listening to and following Government recommendations in regard to the outbreak.
