Dona Lansing

 

Dona Dorothy Lansing, 90, of Clermont, Iowa died Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa. Dona was born December 3, 1929, to Gustave and Bertha Annie (Olson) Gilbertson in Lamoure County near Litchville, North Dakota. In 1938 the family moved to Elgin, Iowa, where Dona attended school in rural Clayton County and graduated from Elgin High School in 1947. 

Dona was united in marriage to Gerald F. Lansing on September 13, 1952. They were blessed with five children. 

Dona was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Rosary Society as well as the Clermont Historical Society and the Town and Country Study Club for many years. She worked for the State of Iowa at the Department of Human Services for twenty-four years. Upon retirement Dona kept very busy volunteering wherever needed in the Clermont community. She especially enjoyed her time volunteering at the Valley Community School reading to the children and being available to offer a hug or word of encouragement when needed. She played cards several times a week with the local ladies and enjoyed knitting while watching the Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball games. Her children would often joke that Dona kept so busy they would have to make an appointment to see her. She will be remembered for her strong faith in God and the good example she always set for her family. 

Dona is survived by her children, Michele (Roger) Johnson, Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Pam (Bill) Pfister, Elgin, Iowa, Margo (Dean) Knight, Grinnell, Iowa, and Douglas (Dawn) Lansing, Sarasota, Florida; Eleven grandchildren, Bethany and Bryan Johnson, Jill and Amy Pfister, Monica Radcliffe, Meredith and Jayce Knight, Kyle, Reagan, Aaron, and Gabrielle Lansing; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Baldwin, and Kinley and Jaxon Lansing, Sister-in-Law, Lorraine Kelly, and many nieces and nephews; 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gustave and Bertha Annie Gilbertson, her son, Stephen Lansing; siblings, Harold Gilbertson, H. Luella Gilbertson, Palma (Polly) Hill, Rev. Harvey Gilbertson, Amy Holden, Hazel Olson and Mildred Gilbertson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Clermont, or the Clermont Historical Society.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Clermont, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before mass at the church on Friday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Friday, March 13, 2020 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Clermont with Rev. Don Komboh as the celebrant.

Inurnment will follow the lunch at East Clermont Cemetery, rural Clermont, Iowa

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Clermont, Iowa is helping the family with arrangements.
