Elgene L. Kamper, 93, of Arlington, Iowa died Monday morning, January 27, 2020 at Grandview Healthcare Center in Oelwein, Iowa.

Funeral Service was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2020 at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington with Rev. Margaret Yackel-Juleen officiating.

Visitation was held from 3 – 7 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington and for one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Interment was in the Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington.

Elgene Lola Knickerbocker was born February 26, 1926 at Ridgeville, Wisconsin, the daughter of Vern Alton and Regina Emma (Gerke) Knickerbocker.  She attended country schools, Edgewood High School and graduated from Arlington High School in 1943.  Elgene was employed at Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from 1943 to 1944.  On April 8, 1945, she was united in marriage to Raymond J. Kamper at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington.  They raised two children: Kenneth Jay and Karilyn Jean.  Elgene was a devoted homemaker, helped Raymond on the farm and milked cows for 43 years.  In 1986, they moved to Arlington where she helped in their woodworking shop.  She was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church, being active in WELCA, church circles and the quilters group.  Elgene held offices in several clubs.  She was also a member of the Helping Sisters Club, Embroidery Club, Good Will Club and Red Hat Society.  She liked to garden, square dance, can food, play cards, entertain friends and the Coop/Library Coffee Group. 

Elgene is survived by her children: Kenneth (Rita) Kamper of Knoxville, Tennessee and Karilyn (JD) Madden of Parkville, Missouri; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Roderic (Ruth) Kamper of Strawberry Point,Roberta Koehler of South Dakota, Rosalie Spence of Marshalltown and

Edna Kamper of Algona; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on April 24, 1999; 2 brothers: Elton and Orlin Knickerbocker; sisters-in-law: Betty Knickerbocker and Evelyn Knickerbocker; and 3 brothers-in-law: Richard Kamper, Jerry Koehler and Glen Spence.
