Everyone better be sure to have their costumes picked out and their candy bowls fully stocked because Halloween is just around the corner! We’ve got you covered for all you need to know about upcoming Halloween fun and activities, including local trick-or-treating dates and times.

West Union

Trick-or-treating will be held from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Halloween (Thursday, Oct. 31).

A Trunk N Treat was also held on Sunday.

Elgin

A Trunk-N-Treat will be held in Elgin from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. The event will be held on Center Street and is hosted by the Elgin Community Betterment Club. Awards will be given out to the best-decorated trunks.

The public is invited to come decorate a trunk and enjoy a Halloween meal. Please RSVP for a trunk spot by Thursday, Oct. 24, to Stephanie Hermen (563) 379-1329. 

Clermont

Halloween activities in Clermont begin Thursday, Oct. 31, with a Trunk or Treat hosted by West Clermont Lutheran Church. The event will be held from 5 until 6:30 p.m. and all entries will be part of the best-decorated trunk contest. Trick-or-treaters will vote for two of their favorite trunks of the night. Cookies and cider will also be served.

The trunk or treat event is open to anyone, so call the church office at (563) 423-7170.

Also on Halloween night, the Annual Clermont Halloween Costume Contest and Games will be held at the Clermont Opera House. 

Starting at 6 p.m., plenty of games and activities for kids to participate in will part of the fun. Costume judging will begin at approximately 7:15 p.m.

The event is open to the public and is sponsored by the Clermont Community Club.

Fayette

The City of Fayette will host several Halloween-themed activities in the coming days, which are as follows:

  •  Saturday, Oct. 26 – Fayette’s PumpkinFest (4-6 p.m.) at the Fayette Opera House. The event is sponsored by the Fayette Recreation Board and will feature free games, music, hay rides (4:30 p.m.), pumpkin treats, and apple cider. The carved/decorated pumpkin contest will be judged at 5 p.m. with categories that include funniest, scariest, miscellaneous, and best of show. There will also be a Chili Cook-Off (5 p.m.). No pre-registration is required.
  •  Tuesday, Oct. 29 – The Devil has my Consent, the real story behind the Salem Witch Trials. The event will be held at the Fayette Community Library and is not recommended for children under the age of 14.
  •  Thursday, Oct. 31 – Door-to-door trick-or-treating in Fayette from 5 until 7 p.m. Residents are reminded to leave their porch light on if they want to participate.
  •  Thursday, Oct. 31 – Maple Crest Manor/Campus Halloween Open House. Trick-or-treating will be held from 6 until 7 p.m.
  •  Thursday, Oct. 31 – UIU “Pete’s Hall of Horror” haunted house (6-10 p.m.) at the “CW” (301 Washington St.). Admission is $5 and the lineup closes at 9:30 p.m. Parental discretion is advised!

Hawkeye

Hawkeye’s Haunted Hauth Park will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 6 until 9 p.m. A kid-friendly version will be open from 6 until 7 p.m.

Food will be available with a donation. Admission is $3, which will go toward the Hawkeye Community Hall renovations.

The City of Hawkeye will also have trick-or-treating from 4 until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.
