Richard Leibold

Richard Frederick “Dick” Leibold, 78, of Ossian, Iowa died Tuesday, September 24, 2019at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, Wisconsin. Richard, the son of Leo H. and Charlotte (Lewis) Leibold, was born March 17, 1941 in Decorah, Iowa. He graduated from De Sales High School in Ossian. Dick served in the US Army with the 101^stAirborne from 1959 through 1962.  When Dick returned from the service, he worked at Schmitz Furniture Store as a carpet layer. He then partnered with Jim Skillings in D & J Carpeting for several years. Dick then worked for Mr. Carpet in Decorah. After his retirement, Dick worked as a custodian for De Sales School.

Dick was united in marriage with Susan Numedahl on October 2, 1965 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar.  To this union, five children were born.

Dick was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, the South Winneshiek Country Club, and the Ossian American Legion Post #503.  He enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and the Iowa Hawkeyes, MeTV was his favorite TV station, and on Sundays he would listen to the Statler Brothers.   He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. The family is sure that his best friend, Francis Franzen, met him at the gates of heaven with a cold PBR.

Dick is survived by his wife, Susan, of Ossian, Iowa; five children, Lesli Leibold of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Lynn (Mark) Imoehl of Castalia, Iowa; Daniel Leibold of Ossian, Iowa; Gwen (Lenny) Imoehl of Castalia, Iowa; and Robert Leibold of Dallas, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Ethan (Kelsey) Imoehl, Elliot (Jill) Imoehl, Kaitlyn Imoehl, Hunter Leibold, Brinley Leibold, Tanner Heins, Jacob Michels, Emily Michels, Zach Imoehl, Cody (Jacinda) Imoehl, and Jeremy Imoehl; one great granddaughter, Danielle Imoehl; one sister, Jeanette (Jim) Bradwell of Bremerton, Washington; one brother, Ronald Leibold of Bremerton Washington;  three sisters-in-law, Leslie Leibold of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sandra Numedahl of Denver, Colorado, and Patti (Frank) Graves of Decorah, Iowa; brother-in-law, Dick (Lela) Numedahl of Decorah, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Charlotte; one brother, Jim Leibold; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lester and Laura Numedahl; and two brothers-in-law, Roger and James Numedahl.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dick’s honor may be made to Ossian Ambulance, Ossian Fire Department, Castalia Fire Department or the American Legion Post #503.

Visitation will be Friday, September 27, 2019 from 4-7 pm at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, Iowa and one hour before Mass at the church on Saturday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, Iowa with Rev. Daniel Knipper as the Celebrant.

Burial with Military Rites will follow at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, Ossian, Iowa.
