There will be race for mayor in upcoming city election

West Union Mayor Adam Keller will be facing a challenger in this year’s election, Nov. 5. Lester Hope has also filed for the Mayor’s seat.

Candidates had to file by Sept. 19.

In the Council race, one At-large seat will be determined, along with the 2ndWard and 3rdWard seats. 

There are two challengers running against incumbent Kennon Gumm. They are Linda Croal and Ann Hutchens.

Seeking re-election to the Ward 2 seat will be Cam Granger while Andrew Smith will be seeking re-election to the Ward 3 seat.

Voting will be at the Courthouse Assembly Room, 114 N. Vine St.

The following are the candidates for the towns in our coverage area:

Arlington

The mayor and three council seats are up for election.

Running for council are incumbents Alan Shaffer and Denise Palas, and newcomer Diane Bond. Council member Dustin Schott did not file nomination papers for re-election.

Voting will be at the Arlington Community Center.

Clermont

Troy Schott and Dina Taylor will both be seeking re-election to the city council. Mayor James Matt is also seeking re-election.

Voting will take place at the North Fayette Valley Community Coalition Building at 23689 Canoe Rd., rural Elgin.

Elgin

Three seats are up for election on the Elgin City Council.

Ronald Hills is the only incumbent seeking re-election. Council members Michael Baker and Alex Popenhagen did not file election papers.

New candidates are Brian Thomas, Sarah Rose, Bob Frieden, James Johnson and Stephanie Hermen.

Voting will be at the North Fayette Valley Community Coalition Building at 23689 Canoe Rd., rural Elgin.

Fayette

There will be a race for Mayor. Mayor Andrew Wenthe is seeking re-election. He will be challenged by Bobby Jo Larson.

All five council seats are up for grabs. Incumbents Amy Tucker, Nancy Wulfekuhle, Curtis Larson, and Patricia Potratz are all seeking another term. They will be challenged by Linda Tenney, Tim Wulfekuhle, John Garcia, Nathan Post and James B. Lowery. Matt Cowley did not turn in papers to be re-elected.

Voting will be at the Fayette Library, 104 W. State St.

Hawkeye

Donald Kelly is running unchallenged for Mayor.

Four council seats are up for re-election and two of those are to fill vacancies.

The only incumbent running is Hugh Curtis. The other candidates are Sara Schnur, John Noll and Jeremy James Eickhoff.  Ben Menne, Joshua Hanson and Terry Buenzow, incumbents appointed to the council, are not seeking re-election. 

Voting will be at the Hawkeye Library, 104 S. Second St.

Maynard

Appointed Mayor Kelly Beacom will be seeking election to the office.

Two council seats are up for election as well as a seat to fill. Council candidates are James Byerly, Jennifer Conner and Gene Holtz. All three are incumbents. Holtz is running to fill the vacancy after being appointed.

Voting will be at the Maynard Library, 225 Main St.

Randalia

No candidates are on the docket for mayor. Current Mayor Dean Teague did not fill nomination papers, nor did anyone else.

Three council seats are open and incumbents Michael Mahoney, Jeff Winkie and Valerie Knospe, have all filed for re-election.

Voting will be at the Maynard Library in Maynard, 225 Main St.

St. Lucas

Mayor James Rausch and council members Dave Anderson, Kurt Huinker and Susan Franzen are all seeking another term. There are no other candidates for these four positions.

Voting will be at the St. Lucas Community Center, 101 W. Main St.

Wadena

All the city government seats up for election have been filed for by the current officials with no challengers filing nomination papers.

Mayor Jared Kent and Council members Richard Aeschliman, Cameron McDowell and Randall Weber will all be seeking re-election.

Voting on Nov. 5 will be at the Wadena Library, 136 S. Mill St.

Waucoma

Mayor David Klimesh has filed for re-election but five council seats are open and only two incumbents have filed, Faye Winter and Mark Schmitt.

Council members Kevin Kleve, Nick Lauer and John Gossling did not file nomination papers.

Voting on Nov. 5 will be at the St. Lucas Community Center, 101 W. Main St.
