Entertainment, activities planned for upcoming Watermelon Days

Fayette Watermelon Days will be Friday, Sept. 6 through Sunday, Sept. 8.

The event will have lots of free activities and entertainment.

Watermelon Days Committee Chair Linda Tenney said one of the newest events will be an Escape Room.

“The newest event we will be doing is an escape room this year for $5 a person for groups of five on Friday and Saturday (see times below). It's called ‘The Disappearance of Mr. George’ and will be housed on Main Street at the old dentist’s office at 143 S. Main St. We are encouraging people to register ahead of time. This will ensure a smoother transition between groups and no waiting in long lines. Payment will need to be made at the door,” Tenney pointed out.

To register go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/escape-room-at-fayette-watermelon-days-tickets.

The Fayette Opera House is seeking local artists and crafters for an exhibit during Watermelon Days.

“There is talent in and around Fayette and we would love to show it off. The Opera House will become an Art Gallery for a day allowing visitors to experience the creative side of our community within the walls of a local treasure,” said organizers.

The Opera House will be open for the show on Saturday, Sept. 7. Anyone wishing to submit a piece of hanging or tabletop art or craft is invited to contact Annette Butikofer at abutikofer23@gmail.com, leave a message at 563-425-3076, or contact any Opera House Board member.

Fayette Watermelon Days buttons will soon be available to purchase at local Fayette businesses. They will be sold for $1 per button/entry or six buttons/entries for $5.  Each button/entry will be placed in a drawing that will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. in downtown Fayette.  One $500 cash prize, two $250 cash prizes, and many more other prizes will be given away.  Winners do not have to be present to win.
