Celebrate Your Roots at Elgin Homecoming 2019

            The kick-off to the 2019 Elgin Homecoming, Small Town USA: These are My Roots is just around the corner!   The event, which is celebrated every five years is will begin Thursday, June 27 and continue through the weekend.  As always,  the celebrations will include something for anyone and everyone! 

            On Thursday,  visitors and neighbors alike are invited to explore a local farmers market from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Elgin.   There will also be a Homecoming Trivia night beginning at 7 p.m. at Dotzy’s Restaurant and Saloon in the heart of downtown Elgin.

            On Friday, June 28, there will be a variety of food stands featuring delicious area favorites including Dotzy’s, Elgin Tap, M.S. D.C. Fundraiser, Brain Freeze, and Elgin Lutheran Church will be open from 5 -7 p.m. 

            That same evening, area young-one’s will kick-off the evening with a Children’s Costume Parade: Small Town USA at 6 p.m., followed by the introduction of Miss Elgin and Music In the Park: Musical Revue at 7 p.m. 

Local Boy Scout troops will be selling popcorn & malts during these events.

            Later, Bruce Bearinger will provide the tunes during the street dance Friday evening from 9 p.m. to midnight.   

            On Saturday June 29, there will be a Fueled by Color 5K Run/Walk at 8 a.m.; registration is 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. in Elgin’s park.

            The long anticipated Grand Opening of Elgin’s Bike Trail Bridge will be held at 9 a.m. followed by the Grand Parade at 10:30 a.m.  

            Food stands will open at 11 a.m. featuring local fare from Bad Boy BBQ, Brain Freeze, Dotzy’s, and the Elgin Tap. Area Boy Scouts will also be serving food as well as the North Fayette Valley Middle School students who will be offering a meal to help raise funds for an upcoming trip to Washington D.C.

            Other Saturday events include kids activities and stories and art from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; a 12:30 p.m.  Sing along at Methodist church; Scavenger Hunt at 2 p.m.; Kiddie Tractor Pull at 3 p.m.

The evening will be topped off with Elgin’s Got Talent Finale and Quilt Raffle giveaway at the Bandstand from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

            Dog’s On Ski’s will perform that evening during the street dance from 8 p.m. to midnight.  

            The weekend long event will come to a close on Sunday, June 30, with an Ecumenical Church service in the park at 10:30 a.m. followed by an 11:30 a.m. brunch hosted by the RISE youth group. 

 

            At 1:00 p.m., visitors are invited to attend another energetic and entertaining performance of Elgin’s 2019 Music in the Park: Musical Revue.
