Barbara (Boleyn) Meis, 83, of Florence, AZ passed away peacefully on December 18, 2018 with her husband, Tom, by her side.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring, after which Barbara will be buried in the Elgin Cemetery.

Barbara Kay was born in Elgin, IA, the daughter of Leo and Freida (Miller) Boleyn.  

She attended Elgin schools. 

She married Richard Chicken in 1951 and four children were born to this union: Dennis, Kurtis, Helen and Marcia. They later divorced and Barbara resided in CA, IA, and the last 40 years in AZ.

Barbara worked at various business jobs through her working years and finished her career as a realtor. 

She retired to AZ after a debilitating injury in 1978. After she moved to Florence, she volunteered for many years helping the elderly settle their insurance medical billing issues to lower their out of pocket expenses. She found this very rewarding volunteer work. 

Barbara loved music, especially playing the piano and singing with her beautiful voice.  She played the organ and piano for all to enjoy wherever there was one to sit down to. 

She met and married Bill Prophet in 1991, and they spent their years together traveling the U.S. enjoying their love of family and music. They enjoyed their stays at Boie, AZ participating in the music festivals there until Bill passed away in 1999.

Barbara later met and married her husband Tom in 2000, and they enjoyed traveling to Iowa and Nebraska to enjoy family and friends many times over the years.

Barbara loved her family dearly. 

She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Tom; her children Marcia (Jerry) Meyer, Dennis (Margaret “Mugs” Jesperson) Chapman, Helen (George Johnson), and Kurt (Vickie) Chicken; 10 grandchildren, Brenda, Wendy, Jennifer, Katie, Travis, Tracy, Tammy, Laurie, Jason and Matt; and 18 great-grandchildren.  One additional great-grandchild and her first great-great-grandchild were to enter her life within the next three months.  She also leaves behind her brothers Roger (Gretchen) and David (Kay) Boleyn; sisters-in-law Rosella (Robert) and Donna (Raymond) Boleyn, many nieces and nephews and their families, and many dear and special friends.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Freida; sister, Marilyn (Linus Hildebrand); sister-in-law Lois (Raymond) Boleyn; brothers Dennis, Robert, and Raymond Boleyn, brother-in-law Linus Hildebrand, and other loved relatives.       1u1
