Paul E. Nuss, 81, of Hawkeye died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at Strawberry Point Lutheran Home Community after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. Larry Trachte officiating. 

Burial will follow at Hawkeye Cemetery. 

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday. 

Memorials may be made to the family for later designation. 

Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye is assisting Paul’s family.

Paul Eugene, son of Clarence and Mildred (Paul) Nuss, was born Oct. 26, 1937, in rural Hawkeye. 

He received his early education in the country schools of rural Hawkeye and would continue at Hawkeye High School. 

On Nov. 2, 1958, he was united in marriage with Jean Niewoehner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. To this union a daughter, Connie, was born. 

Paul was a lifelong farmer in the Hawkeye area. 

He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was very active and served on the church council for many years and as an usher. Paul also served as a Soil Conservation commissioner. 

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, raising ponies, current events, and talking politics. 

Paul is survived by his daughter, Connie Popenhagen of Hawkeye; two grandchildren, Devin (Raul) Herrerra of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., and Ean Popenhagen of Hawkeye; a great-granddaughter, Delanie Gracie Herrerra; and a sister, Kathleen (Jack) Kirby of Wichita, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean, who died on Jan. 25, 2014; a brother, Dean; and a sister, Geraldine.            52u52
