Eugene J. Novak, 92, died on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018 at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa.

  A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, Iowa, with Father Aaron Junge as celebrant.  

Burial was in the church cemetery.  

Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Protivin, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.

  Eugene J. Novak was born May 17, 1926, son of Lewis J. and Annie (Frana) Novak in Winneshiek County near Protivin, Iowa.  

He attended school and graduated from Rudolphinum High School in 1944.  

From 1951 to 1953 he served in the U.S. Army in Germany.

  On May 24, 1954, he was united in marriage with Gertrude Bohr in Ossian, Iowa.  To this union six children were born.  

The couple farmed northeast of Protivin until retirement in 1987.  Upon retiring, Eugene made furniture using lumber from his own wood lot.

  He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, Knights of Columbus, was an American Legion commander, and very active as a Hospice volunteer.

  Eugene is survived by six children, Ronald (Mary) Novak of Protivin, Perry (Wendy) Novak of Decorah, June (Allen) Moudry of Protivin, David (Irene) of St. Charles, Minn., Cynthia (Joseph) Streif of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Audrey Novak of Protivin; and a sister, Elizabeth Seaver of Florida. There are 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

  Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude, on Sept. 1, 1997; his parents; and a brother, Andrew Novak.     52u52
