Anthony Patrick Durnan Sr., age 62, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018. 

Tony was born in Oelwein, Iowa to Leo Sr. and Grace (Stahr) Durnan on July 30, 1956. 

Tony grew up on a dairy farm and graduated from Valley High School, Elgin, IA in 1975. 

He married Tammy (Grenert) Durnan on Sept. 12, 1992, and together they have six children, Anthony Jr., Yesenia, Cristian “Bud,” Jason, Austin, and Spencer.

Tony was raised Catholic, and his faith was always important to him. He was loved by all and was always willing to help in any way he could, which spoke to his character tremendously. 

Tony was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Tony also enjoyed helping family on the farm as well as collecting and restoring antique tractors. He loved to entertain, cook, spend time with family, and cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes. 

Tony worked for the City of Adel and retired on his 62nd birthday in July. 

Tony is survived by his wife, Tammy; children Anthony (Amy) Durnan Jr., Yesenia (Brad) Pyle, Cristian “Bud,” Jason, Austin, and Spencer; grandchildren Kyle Durnan, Layla, and Cayden Pyle; siblings Charles (Margie) of Casa Granda, Ariz., Joseph (Janis) of Elma, IA, Michael of Arlington, IA, James (Kathy) of Thomaston, Ga., Mark (Kate) of Elgin, IA, Luke (Kathrine) of Walker, IA, John (Mary) of Thomaston, Ga., Paul of Clermont, IA, Francis (Sylvia) of Globe, Ariz., Regina (Terry) Ellerman of Quincy, Ill., Lucy Durnan of Clermont, IA, Rebecca (Mark) Skretta of Fort Atkinson, IA, Leo (Shirley) of Elgin, IA, Martha (Steve) Slagle of Algona, IA, Veronica (Kenny) Boyer of Hawkeye, IA, Marie (Ron) Lauer of West Union, IA; his mother-in-law, Tiny Grenert; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Tony is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mary Turner and Grace (Sue) Walker; his father-in-law, Larry Grenert; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Durnan.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee. 

Interment was at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel.
