A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Sister Ignatia (Helen) Rosenbaum, age 90, at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2018 in Francis Chapel, Dubuque, Iowa. The Reverend Ron Friedell presided. 

Sister died Monday, Nov. 12, 2018 at Clare House in the 69th year of her religious life.

Sister Ignatia, daughter of the late John and Louisa (Bucheit) Rosenbaum, was born July 31, 1928 on a farm near Ossian, IA.   

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis DeSales in Ossian, IA.  

She was one of five children. Her mother died when she was age 8, and she and her four siblings did their best to help their father with the farm work.  

She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Dubuque from St. Francis DeSales on Aug. 25, 1949. She was received with the name Sister Mary Ignatia on Aug. 12, 1950 and made her final profession of vows on Aug. 12, 1955.

Sister ministered as a homemaker at Briar Cliff College and St. Anthony’s Home, both in Sioux City, Iowa. In Dubuque, she ministered at Holy Trinity, Holy Ghost, Holy Family Hall, and Immaculate Conception Convent. She also ministered at Crescent City, Calif. 

After living and working at Mount St. Francis House in Dubuque for several years, Sister retired to Clare House assisted-living facility in 2014.  

Sister Ignatia is survived by her sisters, Florence (Donald) Gapinski of Anamosa and Ione Hartley of Denver, Colo.; several nieces and nephews; and her Franciscan sisters, with whom she shared over 68 years of her life.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Harold (LuVerne) Rosenbaum; her sister, Gertrude (Carl) Kuhn; and her brother-in-law, Art Hartley.
