The West Union swim team ended its 2018 season Saturday at the Conference Swim-Off in Sumner, where it finished fifth in the nine-team conference.

Earlier in the week, the team lost its final home meet of the season to Waukon on Tuesday, July 10. No results from that meet were available at press time.

Saturday in Sumner, four of the gold medals the West Union swimmers brought back were won by two swimmers.

Gracie Kent-Thomas won both the 25 freestyle and 25 backstroke.

Sam Nefzger also won a pair of golds, topping the field in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly.

Brooxton Lundgren was a double medal winner, taking silver in the 25 freestyle and a bronze in the 25 butterfly.

Three of the boys’ relays won three bronze medals. The relays were 9/10-year-old medley relay (Gabe Stansbery, Cole Moser, Jordan O’Kone, and Jaxson Lundgren); 11-12 medley relay (Doug Bentley, Zeke Stansbery, Decklyn Heins, and Gavin Schiller); and the 13-14 medley relay (John Starrett, Ryan Wettleson, Sam Nefzger, and James Baumler).
