Schwartzhoff into 100M record book

Senior Rodney Schwartzhoff blazed his way into the South Winneshiek record books with a 10.90 time in the 100-meter dash at last week’s Osage Invite. Schwartzhoff’s time bested that of his cousin, Colton Hageman, who had the previous mark of 11.04 (2012). (Zakary Kriener photo)

The Warrior boys’ track team was in action on two occasions last week, traveling to Osage on Tuesday, April 24, and then competing at the Crestwood Co-Ed Meet on Thursday.

The South Winneshiek record books had to be rewritten after Rodney Schwartzhoff’s blazing performance at the Osage Invite. The senior sprinter set the new 100-meter mark at 10.90, breaking the record that was previously held by Colton Hageman (11.04, 2012), Rodney’s cousin.

Schwartzhoff was also part of the first-place 4x100 team (46.38) along with Braxton Smith, Brennan Holthaus, and Levi Lukes.

Paul Hageman (10:45.27) and Derek Dietzenbach (10:59.89) finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 3200-meter run to continue the strong evening for the Warriors.

At the end of the day, South Winn finished sixth in the team standings with 60.5 points.

Thursday, the Warrior boys were back at it as Schwartzhoff again led the way in the sprinting events.

The senior took first in both the 100-meter dash (11.60) and 200-meter dash (23.43), while also making up a leg of the runner-up 4x100 team with Braxton Smith, Brennan Holthaus, and Levi Lukes (45.42).

Lukes and senior Carson Bohr each contributed a spark in the field events. Lukes took second in the long jump (18’1.5”) while Bohr added a runner-up finish in the shot put (42’10.5”).

The Warriors hosted Decorah, Postville, Turkey Valley, and West Central in Calmar on Monday; however, results were not available at press time.

South Winn is set to return to action Thursday as it will play host to the 2018 Upper Iowa Conference Meet in Calmar. The meet marks the first time that the Warriors have hosted the event.
