Henriksen sentenced in Elgin boys death

Dan Henriksen has been sentenced to two months in prison for his connection with the accidental shooting death of four-year-old Jayden Choate of Elgin. 

 

Henriksen pleaded guilty to possession of a handgun while using an illegal substance. According to court documents, he admitted to law enforcement that he had smoked marijuana with friends at his home in Elgin the night before the young child’s death. 

 

The day of his death, Choate had been napping with his younger brother and sister at Henriksen’s home while his mother sat with a friend on the porch. The young boy awoke from his nap, found a loaded handgun, and accidentally shot himself in the head. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died. Henriksen was not home when the accident occurred.
