Howard Elton Heath, 78, of Douglas, Ga., formerly of Maynard, Iowa died Tuesday Jan. 2, 2018 at his residence.

A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, Jan. 14, from 2 to 5 pm at Cedar Court Senior Living Apartments at 111 Lilac Ave., West Union.

Howard was born Aug. 20, 1939 in Berrier County, Ga. to Clifton Edward Heath and Rosa Beatrice Fender Heath.

He was united in marriage with Donna Kuhens on Jan. 4, 1978. 

He worked as a custodian at West Central School District for many years. 

He enjoyed working in his garden for Farmers Market in Oelwein, Independence, and West Union. He looked forward to having his grandchildren help with Farmers Market and working in the garden.

He is survived by his Georgia family, two daughters: Lesha Key of Douglas and Brenda Mancil of Pearson, son Gerald Heath of Commerce; two sisters: Linda Hall of Alapaha and Jean Strickland of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers: Thomas and Elwood both of Alapaha; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his Iowa family, the love of his life Donna of Maynard; two daughters: Kandi (Ron) DeShaw of Elkader, Keri (Paul) Amos of Hawkeye; seven grandchildren: Derick (Katie) Schroeder of Iowa City, Melanie (Spencer) Bilden of West Union, Ashley Amos of Hawkeye, Blaine Schroeder of Spillville, Brianna (Joe Bergeson) Amos of Waucoma, Cameron Amos of Cedar Falls and Justin DeShaw of Volga; four great-grandchildren Nyle and Peyton Schroeder and Elijah and Emerson Bilden.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: William, Clifton and Johnny Heath; two sisters: Melba Ray and Mary Griner; his father- and mother-in-law, Daryl and Geraldine Kuhens.
