Karen Mack, 76 of Clermont, Iowa died Monday, May 22, 2017 at Stoney Brook Assisted Living, West Union, Iowa. 

Karen was born Nov. 4, 1940 to Alfred Harley and Eva Mae (Leonard) Burrack at her grandmother’s home near Strawberry Point, Iowa.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington, Iowa.

Karen graduated from Arlington High School in 1958.

Karen was united in marriage with Galen Mack on March 2, 1958 at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington, Iowa. Six children were born to this union. 

While raising her family, Karen was a homemaker and also babysat in her home for other families. When the children were older she worked at Elgin Echo for many years. Together with her husband, Karen owned and operated Mack’s Crafts.

She enjoyed woodworking, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Lakers and Iowa Hawkeyes. The highlight of her life was watching her children and grandchildren participate in activities. 

Karen was active in the church and WELCA. She was also a member of Business and Professional Women’s Club, and was active with the election board for many years.

Karen is survived by her six children and their spouses, Randy (Jill) Mack of Earlville, Iowa, Mick (Stacey) Mack of Waverly, Iowa, Kevin (Missy) Mack of Fayette, Iowa, Candis (Scott) Frieden of Elgin, Iowa, Curtis (Samantha) Mack of St. Augustine, Florida and Holli (Matt) Dinan of West Union, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Christian (Abigail) Mack, Shannon (Alexa) Mack, Mariah Mack, Maranda (Jacob) Ford, Dustin (Chelsey) Mack, Lindsey (Ryan) Fonkert, Aiden Mack, Brooks, Lexi (Grant Wagner) and Blaize Frieden, Madison (Dominic Mercurio IV) and Tucker (Madi Weaver) Mack; eight great-grandchildren, Audrey and Amelia Mack, Myles and Lillian Mack, Charlotte and Zyler Ford, and Jensen and Bryant Mack; siblings, Patricia (Robert) Dzaboff, Daniel (Patricia) Burrack, Brenda (Larry) Fliehler; and special friend, Johnny Yauslin.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband Galen, in 2008; her parents, Alfred and Eva Burrack; mother-in-law and father-in-law, R.S. and Violet Mack; sister-in-law, Susan Burrack; grandson, Joshua Mack; and great-granddaughter, Vivian Mack.

Funeral Services were held at 11 am on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa. Rev. David Schafer was the Officiant.

Burial was at 2 pm on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Grandview Cemetery, Fayette, Iowa.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clermont, Iowa helped the family with the arrangements.     22u22
