Frederick Waalk

 

 

            Frederick Waalk, 92, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.  A visitation will be on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 5 to 8 pm at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories Stateroom.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 3 pm at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories and entombment at Cedar Memorial Mausoleum. 

Fred was born on October 29, 1924, the son of Guy and Mabel (Reidel) Waalk.  He proudly served his country in WWII aboard the submarine the U.S.S. Cod and on the U.S.S. Proteus.  “Poppy Fred” loved being busy and helping with any project.  He enjoyed old westerns, telling stories of his war service and his youth.  He was a loving father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife DeLoris, his parents and his brothers George and John and sister Mary.

Left to cherish Fred’s memories are his daughter Mickie (William) Wallace of Jacksonville Florida, his grandchildren Kristin (Mike) Morrison and Thomas Wallace (fiancée Lena), of Jacksonville and his great-grandson Devin Collins. He is also survived by his dear sister Mabel May Duke and many loving nieces and nephews and friends.
