Carla Rear

Carla A. Rear, 79, of Clermont, Iowa died peacefully on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo surrounded by her loving husband and family.

She was born October 28, 1936 in Union Township of Fayette County, daughter of Arthur and Alberta (Berns) Matt.

She graduated from Clermont High School in 1955 and Pitzies Beauty School in Waterloo.

Carla married Dennis Rear on September 11, 1956, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clermont, Iowa. 

She was owner-operator of Carla's Beauty Shop for 37 years. Carla and Dennis retired in 1994.

Carla enjoyed summer weekends at Harpers Ferry, playing cards with friends and, most of all, spending time with Dennis and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carla loved to cook and, wow, could she cook! Holidays were always special with Carla controlling the kitchen, and she loved to share those celebrations with others, especially those who had no family.

Carla was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and St. Peter’s Rosary Society in Clermont. 

She was also a long-time member of Clermont Business and Professional Women and involved in their project with stoneware featuring historical sites in the community.

Carla is survived by her husband, Dennis, of 59 years and her four children, Rebecca (Ron) Herrig of Dubuque, Robert (Kathy) Rear of West Union, Cindy (Gary) Nelson of Waverly and Lori (Bill) Wedeking of Waverly; eight grandchildren, Grant (Kelly) Campbell, Kyle (Alexandra) Campbell, Bryan Rear, Kaitlin (Tim) Zern, Daniel (Christina) Nelson, David Nelson, Michael (Meca) Loftsgard and Ben Wedeking; seven great grandchildren, Henry Campbell, Brianna Rear, Ava Zern, Thomas Nelson, Josi Baker, Zayla and Hayden Loftsgard, and two more great-granddaughters to be born this summer.

Carla is survived by four brothers and three sisters who all remained close in proximity and also in her heart.

Visitation was Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home, Clermont, Iowa and one hour before mass at the church on Wednesday.

Mass of Christian burial was at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clermont, Iowa.

Burial followed at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Clermont, Iowa.
