The Warriors hosted the Decorah Vikings in girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball action in Calmar on Friday night.

The Warrior girls were unable to get established on the offensive side of the ball, falling, 44-22.

The boys failed to contain the Vikings’ stout defense and quick-attacking offense, falling 74-34.

Girls v. Decorah

The girls did not have an answer for the steady rain of points from the Vikings’ offense.

Offensively, the Warriors failed to score more than six points in a quarter en route to a 44-22 loss.

South Winn was led offensively by Payton Poshusta, who scored half of the team’s overall points and pulled down a pair of rebounds.

The Warriors received strong outings from Jenna Elsbernd and Abby Hageman, who pulled down four rebounds a piece. Both also recorded an assist and combined for six of the team’s eight steals.

The loss drops the Warriors to 2-8 overall on the eason.

Boys v. Decorah

The Warrior boys were outmuscled by neighboring Class 3A Decorah. The Vikings’ strong interior attack and pinpoint shooting was too much for the Warriors, as South Winn fell, 74-34.

SW fell behind early in the game and was unable to gain any traction in the contest. The Warriors were paced by Carson Lensing with nine points. The junior also picked up a pair of blocks on defense.

Fellow juniors Treyton Jacobsen and Mitch Herold led South Winn on the boards, picking up five rebounds a piece. Jacobsen contributed six points, while Herold tallied eight.

The loss drops the Warriors’ overall record to 2-8 on the season.

The Warriors hosted Edgewood-Colesburg in boys’ and girls’ action on Tuesday night; however, results and statistics were unavailable at press time.

The South Winn boys and girls will again be at home on Thursday night, as they welcome the Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougars to town.
