Alice Boyer will be the guest of honor at an open house being held Saturday, May 3, to celebrate her 80th birthday.

Hosted by her nieces and nephews, the event will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fayette County Historical Center in West Union.

Alice requests no gifts, please; your presence is gift enough.

Born near Brainerd, Alice has lived all her life in Fayette County.

She attended through eighth grade at Idlenot School in Pleasant Valley Township. She was a 1952 graduate of Elgin High School and graduated from Waterloo School of Practical Nursing in 1962.

Alice worked 10 years at Palmer Memorial Hospital in West Union. In 1972, she earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Area 1 in Calmar. Alice worked as an RN at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein for 25 years before retiring in 1998.

Currently a resident of Oelwein, she is active in First Baptist Church in West Union.

She enjoys collecting and repairing antique and vintage dolls, as well as spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Molly.
