The Valley Board of Education approved the hiring Monday of Micah Gearhart as the school’s new elementary and North Fayette Valley seventh- and eighth-grade principal.

Currently the elementary principal at Spirit Lake, Gearhart will officially assume his new duties on Tuesday, July 1.

“During the recent interviewing process, I was not only impressed by the staff itself, but the excitement in education shared by each of those I met,” said Gearhart by telephone from his home. “Not only do I believe this is a perfect community to raise my family, but I love the focus everyone seems to have on education.

“I am equally excited to see the recent growth in educational opportunities that the students of the school district has gone through during [the whole-grade sharing],” he added. “I am aware that a key focus has been improving math and reading, and I look forward to continuing to work on what has already been established.”

While providing his recommendation to hire Gearhart, North Fayette Valley shared superintendent Duane Willhite noted that the 33-year-old has 11 years of experience in education.

In addition to previously teaching grades one through seven, Gearhart has held administration positions since 2007, including two years as dean of students at Camanche.

He and his wife, Alyssa, have three children, Josiah, 6; Aleczander, 4; and Adaleigh, 3.
