TigerHawk boys down Warriors, Vikings

The North Fayette boys’ basketball team split four games last week, downing Ed-Co and South Winn but falling to Clayton Ridge and Crestwood.

Trystan Riley had a big week for the TigerHawks, pouring in 51 points in the four contests, including nights of 18 and 20 points.

The week started on Monday, Feb. 3, in Edgewood as NFV blew out to an 18-4 first-quarter lead on its way to a 63-34 victory.

Riley led the way with 18 points, including a 4-4 night from the 3-point line. Thomas Hanson added three treys for nine points. In all, NFV made nine of its shots from downtown.

The next night the TigerHawks hosted conference-leading Clayton Ridge, which upped its UIC record to 16-3 with a 56-44 win.

NFV started hot, outscoring the Eagles, 16-10, in the first quarter and taking a 21-15 lead at the half.

However, NFV went ice-cold in the third quarter, and the visitors ripped the nets for 23 points and 38-26 lead going into the final quarter.

Alex Callahan came through with a double-double for NFV with 13 points and a dozen rebounds. Riley and Hanson dropped in eight points apiece.

Thursday at home, NFV dealt South Winn’s UIC hopes a big blow, beating the Warriors, 76-71. The two will meet again in the opening round of the District 8 basketball playoffs Monday, Feb. 17, in West Union.

The TigerHawks bombed the visitors from downtown, canning 10-18 from beyond the arc.

Hanson was 5-10 from 3-point range, including four treys in the second quarter. However, SW led at the end of the first 16 minutes, 46-39.

The second half belonged to the TigerHawks as they drilled the Warriors, 37-25, including an eight-point advantage in the third quarter.

The NFV offense was a true team effort as they had 21 assists in the 38 shots that they made. Four TigerHawk’s were in double figures.

Riley led NFV with 20 points, including three treys. Hanson totaled 16 points. Austin Callahan and Lincoln Johansen were also in double figures with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

The TigerHawks closed out the week at home on Saturday, falling to Class 3A Crestwood, 70-41.

The middle two quarters were close, but the Cadets owned the first and fourth quarters.

Phil Kleve led NFV with eight points; Johansen had a team-high five rebounds.
