Jordan Baumler wins state title

North Fayette Valley eighth-grader Jordan Baumler won the Middle School 195 pound championship at the recent Iowa Youth Wrestling Super State Championships. The tourney was held on Sunday, Jan. 26, in the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

Baumler won four matches to claim his title. In the first match, he earned a throw in 2:39.

The second-round match against runner-up Dakoda Powell was Jordan’s closest bout of the day. Powell led by virtue of a third-period escape, 1-0, with seconds left. A shoot by Baumler with 13 seconds left failed, but Jordan managed to grab a head lock and made the winning takedown with just two seconds left in the match.

In round three, Baumler won with another fall, this time in 2:53.

The championship bout was another close match, but Baumler prevailed, 7-5, bringing home the title.

Baumler is the son of Kevin and Angie Baumler of West Union.  His brother, Nick, won the UIC wrestling title at 160 pounds
