The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) has released the 2014-15 district football assignments.

As expected, North Fayette Valley moves up to Class 2A. The TigerHawks are in District 3. For the next two years they will face Beckman, Columbus, Center Point-Urbana, New Hampton, Oelwein, and Waukon.

The new district is loaded with quality teams. Waukon, coached by former Valley head man Chad Beermann, was the Class 2A runner-up last season. Along the way Waukonbeat Beckman and New Hampton; Center Point- Urbana lost to New Hampton in round one of the playoffs.

NFV will play one game with an unspecified team from District 4, and if it makes the playoffs, they will face opponents from the same district. The teams in District 4 include Anamosa, Camanche, Cascade, Monticello, Mount Vernon, Northeast Goose Lake and Tipton. Cascade and Mount Vernon were playoff teams last year.

North Fayette Valley head coach Bob Lape said of the district, “It’s about what we expected; the only question was would we go east/west or north/south. The new district is full of familiar faces. There are a lot of quality teams, but we’ve played them all before.

“I never really worry about district configurations because it’s out of our control. The only thing we worry about is what we can control,” Lape stated.

The rest of the UIC

NFV is the only Class 2A school in the Upper Iowa conference.

Sumner-Fredericksburg, South Winn, Clayton Ridge and MFL/MM remain in Class 1A, District 4. Hudson, Dike-New Hartford and Jesup are also in the district.

Postville, Starmont, and Ed-Co are in Class A District 5 along with East Buchanan, Easton Valley, Lisbon, Maq. Valley, and North Linn.

Turkey Valley has dropped to 8-man football, joining West Central, Central/Elkader, and Kee in District 4. The other teams in the district include Cedar Valley Christian, Central City, Midland, and Springville.

It will be several weeks before the weekly schedule of games is released by the IHSAA.
