UIU men hit 26 treys in weekend split

 

The Upper Iowa men’s basketball team hit 26 shots from 3-point range over the weekend but could only manage a split in its two road games.

The Peacocks hit 13 treys in each of the two games. Friday in Crookston, Minn., UIU beat the Golden Eagles, 97-66, but fell Saturday in Bemidji, 102-89, to the Beavers of Bemidji State.

The Peacocks dominated Crookston on Friday as 12 different players scored, including four in double figures.

Josh Weeber led the assault with 19 points. Grant Lang (15), Joey Woods (13) and Bo Pagel (10) were also in double figures.

After Crookston closed to 25-20 with 6:30 to play, UIU went on a 16-6 tear to go into the locker room with a 41-26 lead.

The second half belonged to the Peacocks, 56-40, as UIU hit eight treys; they shot 13 3-pointers in the game.

UIU shot over 50 percent from the floor and outrebounded its hosts, 41-35. The Peacocks grabbed 16 offensive rebounds, and stole 11 passes.

Saturday’s loss saw UIU can another 13 treys, but the host Beavers had three different players score over 20 points.

Woods led UIU with 15 points and seven assists. Lang added 14 points with Jimmy Roth (13), Weeber (13), and Jordan Hay (11) also in double figures for Upper Iowa.

With the split, UIU falls to 3-5 in the NSIC and 5-9 overall.
