In 1973 West Union had nine service stations at which an auto could be taken to have its tires checked, its oil looked at, its windshield washed, and, of course, filled with gasoline, which cost 32.9 cents per gallon.

One by one those stations began to close. Full service became a thing of the past, and gas prices started to rise. Only one of those original stations is still serving customers today. Jim and Joyce Moss have withstood that test of time and have many reasons to be celebrating their 40th anniversary as they look back on their four decades serving the West Union community and surrounding area.

Moss Service Center along Hwy. 150 South and the Shell Express convenience store at the intersection of Hwys. 150 and 18 have become landmarks to motorists passing through the county seat. To the people of West Union they have provided quality service and to some, a place of employment.
