NFV wrestlers win all 6 duals, 2nd at SW

North Fayette Valley wrestlers had a busy week on the mat, sweeping a pair of triangulars in Oelwein on Tuesday, Dec. 10, and on Friday, Dec. 13.

Saturday, the TigerHawks placed second at the South Winn Invitational in Calmar. Nick Baumler and Tyler Johansen each won a title at the Invite.

Tuesday in Oelwein, the TigerHawks downed Oelwein, 45-21, Nashua-Plainfield, 52-19, and Postville, 69-6.

Colton Blue, Zach Bruns, Austen DeMuth, Baumler, and Johansen each won three matches while Dalton Lape pinned twice and won by forfeit, and David Jellings had a decision and two wins by forfeit.

Friday in Oelwein, NFV rallied to win a tight match against New Hampton, 36-30, and bested Decorah, 42-31, and Oelwein, 45-24.

New Hampton led, 30-24, with two weights to go. Jared Kerr evened the meet with a throw in 1:49, and Zach Bruns earned an 18-3 tech fall to propel the TigerHawks to victory.

In the matchup with Decorah, there were pins at 10 of the 14 weights; NFV had six of the throws to topple the Vikings. The TigerHawks won the final four matches from 126-145, three of them by fall, to pull off the victory.

Saturday in Calmar, NFV crowned Baumler and Johansen as champions at 160 and 220, respectively.

Brian Jensen (113), Jared Kerr (132), Bruns (138), and Lape (Hwt) all won silver medals.

As a team, the TigerHawks were second to Osage. The team managed this while missing three weights.
